The One Body and Its One Head

The doctrine of the one body is never referred to by any other apostle than Paul. He calls it “the Dispensation of the mystery” which he had especially been entrusted with [Ephesians 3:9]. …

Jew and Gentile being formed by the Spirit into one body… was a truth never before made known. The Old Testament will be searched in vain for it. It is not there, because it was “hid in God” [3:9].

The recognition of but one body and one Head … leaves one outside of all human systems, and apart from all recognition of human heads. “The Church must have a head!” was the Romanist’s challenge to Luther, as he began to set forth the claims of the Papacy. “Yes,” replied the mighty champion of the reformation, “and that Head is Christ!”

Seeing Ourselves as God Sees Us

If we would see ourselves as God sees us, in all the perfections of the Beloved in Whom we have been engraced so fully and in Whom we are loved so deeply, we would be reflecting more of what we have been made to be in Christ. God considers us of unique worth and value, sees us “in Christ,” “accepted in the One always beloved,” with all of the acceptableness of Christ Himself, without blemish and without spot.

Free From the Law of Sin and Death

For the spirit’s law of life in Christ Jesus frees you from the law of sin and death (Romans 8:2).

We humans are never created with a “nature” of our own. We are “vessels,” “temples,” “slaves,” “body members,” for Him Who eternally manifests Himself in His nature by and as us.

But because persons are only persons by consciousness of opposites – light/dark, soft/hard, etc. – we had to go through the experience of the two trees in the Garden and thus started off occupied by the spirit of the false deity, Satan, the god of self-centeredness, instead of by the God of self-giving love.

Therefore, the Last Adam had to come to replace the first Adam, and He did it by going through a death on the Cross in which we participated (II Corinthians 5:14). Thus He arose, and we also, partakers of His divine nature (see II Peter 1:4).

Our reckoning of ourselves dead to sin (Romans 6:11) becomes our realizing of Romans 8:2. Now we begin this liberated walk, for “the spirit of life in Christ Jesus set me free from the law of sin and death.” We learn to utilize our temptations as assets in giving us many chances of experiencing swallowing-up grace!

Buried with Him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with Him through the faith of the operation of God, Who hath raised Him from the dead” (Colossians 2:12).

When the Lord Jesus was buried, He was buried as the all-inclusive One. … In His tomb all problems are gone because sin, sins, the flesh, the old man, Satan, the world, the old creation, and the ordinances have been dealt with. … Burial brings about a peaceful situation. Those who are buried do not struggle any longer. Since we have been buried with Christ, we should simply remain at rest.
